The future of Abou Diaby – both at Arsenal and in his career – are in major doubt since the Frenchman has been going from one injury into another for the last couple of seasons.
The 28-year-old has featured in less than 30 appearances in the last four seasons. His contract at Arsenal is coming to an end, which has threatened his football career as a whole. Since Diaby has been struggling to get any sort of fitness into his game during this period, other clubs will be sceptical about offering him a new contract. This situation is threatening to end the career of a promising and talented footballer.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, though, has hinted that the club are ready to offer Diaby a new contract but only on a pay-as-you-play deal. A number of injury from players have been given these kind of offers before and some of them have been able to benefit immensely from it. Diaby will be hoping for a second chance in his career following this deal. Arsenal are in a critical position when it comes to deciding the futures of some big names like Diaby. Meanwhile, Wenger confirmed that the likes of Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere will be in contention for a starting line-up spot shortly.
“By me, yes [a decision has been taken]. I had a chat with him and told him how I can envisage the future. He has to make a decision.Of course he understands completely that he has to perform and to show that he can be present on a consistent way.I will see where we go from there. I wouldn’t like to go into details, we have to meet again to see where we go from what I told him. It has to be linked a little bit with his presence,” said Wenger.
